CPAP Alternatives: Is a Sleep Apnea Oral Appliance Right for Me?
In this video, Dr. Chance McLemore explains when an oral appliance may be an alternative to CPAP therapy.
There are several reasons to look at an oral appliance for sleep apnea. CPAP is, of course, the gold standard, but if you can’t tolerate the CPAP, if you keep waking up in the middle of the night and not getting a good quality of sleep, then looking at the oral mouthpiece is the next step.
We would look at your sleep test, see where you rated as far as your sleep apnea, and determine if you were mild, moderate, or severe. We’d discuss it with your sleep physician. We would need a referral from them to order the sleep appliance, and then we can bring you in, do the digital scans, and get you started on a new way of sleeping well at night.
