Regenerative Medicine in Foley, AL [Video Demo] L-PRF Treatment

One of the most common concerns we hear from patients is about pain and recovery. It’s understandable—no one wants to undergo an uncomfortable procedure and deal with a long, arduous healing period. But with innovations in regenerative medicine, we help accelerate your recovery and make healing more comfortable!

Over the past 3 decades, regenerative medicine has advanced significantly. With innovative treatments like L-PRF, we can harness your body’s natural healing properties to boost your healing. If you’re interested in using regenerative medicine after a dental treatment, you’ve come to the right place.

Understanding Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is the process of replacing or “regenerating” human cells, tissues, or organs. In dentistry, we use regenerative medicine to rebuild lost bone, gum tissue, and other oral tissues.

After any oral surgery, patients will need to undergo a period of healing. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the recovery process can last anywhere from a week to a few months. During the healing process, patients may experience pain, discomfort, and even problems chewing.

But with regenerative medicine, we can support healing and make your recovery more comfortable!

At Riviera Dental Care, we use L-PRF treatment. L-PRF stands for leukocyte-platelet-rich fibrin, or a matrix of your body’s natural healing properties that we take from your blood. By applying this fibrin to your surgical site, we help boost your healing.

Breaking Down the L-PRF Treatment Process

Before beginning your treatment, we will discuss L-PRF treatment as an option. We’ll explain exactly how we use it, what it is, and how it may affect your recovery.

First, our full-time phlebotomist will draw a small blood sample. Then, the phlebotomist will place the sample in a centrifuge, or a machine that rapidly spins the blood to separate its different components.

Your blood sample will be separated into sections. Red blood cells will lie at the bottom, separated from the platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and leukocytes, or white blood cells. Carefully, the phlebotomist will extract the L-PRF (now a clot-like substance) and apply it to your surgical site.

Over time, the material will release important growth factors that help rebuild your bone and gum tissue. In many cases, we find that using L-PRF after oral surgery accelerates healing and may even improve surgical outcomes!

The Benefits of L-PRF as Regenerative Medicine

Using L-PRF offers patients a whole host of benefits. These include:

  • Natural properties: Unlike other regenerative medicines that use synthetic materials, L-PRF uses material from your body. The components of L-PRF come directly from your blood, making it highly compatible with your body’s natural healing agents.
  • Faster healing: Without L-PRF treatment, your healing time will depend largely on your treatment. For procedures like traditional dental implant placement, patients may have to wait months before their implant is fully integrated with their jawbone. But using L-PRF helps accelerate this healing period by promoting the formation of new bone around the implant and potentially stabilizing it more quickly.
  • Reduced discomfort: L-PRF can also improve a patient’s recovery experience by reducing swelling and discomfort!

While everyone’s experiences are different, we find L-PRF to be an incredible addition to the healing process. With L-PRF, patients typically experience faster healing, better outcomes, and greater comfort in the days following surgery.
