Snap-On Dentures vs. Fixed Implant Teeth: Which Is Right for Me?

When a patient comes in and requests an implant-type denture that snaps in, there are several different types we offer. The first one is where we can take your existing denture, place mini implants, and add the housings to your existing denture. That’s called stabilization of your denture.

If you don’t have a denture and you have teeth, and you’re wanting to transition into a denture and you’re looking for implants, we take a CBCT and evaluate your case. Then we get you in, remove your teeth, typically place bone grafts, and let that heal for 3 months. Then you come back, and we check your bone density. If everything checks out good, we go ahead and order the surgical guide, place the mini implants, and then proceed with making the snap-on denture. Which denture you choose from that point possibly has to do with your budget.

We recommend the Fix on Six over the hybrid-type denture because the flange on a hybrid denture looks a lot like a regular denture. If you’re trying to get away from that denture look, you can go with a Fix on Six. It’s got porcelain teeth and looks more like a real bridge on real teeth. It’s easier to clean. You don’t have to take it out every night, whereas with the hybrid denture, you have to take it out and clean it every time you eat.

And so, it’s a little bit more home care. Then there’s also one that we offer that’s called a cemented permanent. Basically, it’s the Fix on Six, except instead of being able to take it in and out, it’s cemented permanently. So ultimately, it depends on your budget and your preference on which type of snap-on denture you’d like.
