Understanding Walk-In Denture Services
At Riviera Dental Care, the experienced Dr. Hanson is in charge of our denture lab. Using state-of-the-art technology, he designs and fabricates a new denture in one day or repairs an existing one that requires a reline. The process is simple.
Denture Reline
Often, traditional dentures require repair over time. Unfortunately, the general wear and tear of life can lead to cracks in the denture base, missing teeth, and ill-fitting prosthetics, all of which affect the functionality of your denture. Using our same-day deture lab, we can repair these issues with ease!
With CAD/CAM (computer-assisted design/manufacturing) technology and 3D printing, we create a new custom mold for your denture base or repair any cracks in the old one. Additionally, using a detailed impression of your jaw structure, we can reshape your existing denture to fit securely in your mouth.
Denture Fabrication
While a denture fabrication is more involved than a reline, Dr. Hanson and his innovative technology are up to the task. Over the course of three appointments, he designs, crafts, and fits your denture in just one day! We start in the morning.
At your first appointment, we’ll start with impressions. By getting a detailed model of your smile, we can better understand your needs. During this step, you help determine the color and appearance of your new smile.
Next, we use the model of your mouth and your custom designs to 3D print your dentures with incredible accuracy. With a wax mold of your final look, we will try on your new smile to test the fit and appearance. Any alterations or adjustments you desire can be made in the chair, allowing us to refine your dentures to your exact specifications.
Finally, when your denture is made, you’ll return for a denture fitting. However, if you require extractions before placing the denture, we will remove those teeth right beforehand. In combination with bone grafting material, wearing your denture immediately after extraction helps to facilitate faster healing.
With your dentures in, we will check the alignment of your bite and ensure they fit comfortably in your mouth. If everything looks and feels great, you can go home that day with a brand-new denture restoration!
Why You May Need a Reline
Traditional dentures are custom-designed to fit your exact specifications, ensuring a perfect fit for every contour of your gums and jaw. Unfortunately, this fit isn’t meant to last. Over time, dentures will always loosen in your mouth, requiring a denture reline or replacement to ensure comfort and function.
Loose dentures are often the result of bone resorption in your jaw. As you lose natural teeth, you lose the roots that kept your smile secure in your jawbone. Additionally, these roots are responsible for maintaining the health of your jawbone! Without them, your bone will lose mass and volume over time.
Dentures don’t replace these roots, allowing the resorption to continue. While the loss of bone is relatively gradual, you may notice consequences like wrinkling skin, sunken cheeks, and difficulties chewing. Only dental implant-supported restorations prevent bone resorption by replacing these tooth roots. However, they involve a much longer placement process.
