What Could Prevent My Current Denture From Being Converted to a Snap-On Denture?
In this video, Dr. Thomas Hanson explains why some existing dentures cannot be converted into snap-on dentures and when replacement may be necessary.
There are a few things that could occur that would prevent us from going to a stabilization of your existing denture, which means placing mini implants and then putting housings in your existing denture to convert it to a snap-on denture.
Number one, there may not be enough room, or the height of your denture may not be sufficient. It’s not enough height to accommodate the housings that would snap onto the balls on top of the mini implants.
Or maybe your denture is fairly old, you know, over 5, 10, or 20 years old. That’s usually a sign that it’s going to be more prone to fracture, or there might already be some signs of fracturing occurring, and that would be a no-no.
So if we do find that your denture is not strong enough or doesn’t have enough bulk to accommodate the housings and the balls of the mini implants, we would suggest maybe fabricating a new denture, increasing your vertical a little bit, and gaining some space, room, strength, and durability that would hold up for your snap-on denture.
